Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with numerous spiritual redwoods. Some were on the staff at the church where I served Christ for 24 years. I met some in the books that I read. Others I have met through my consulting ministry. Each person has taught me something special known only to them, yet all of them have shared with me similar insights to what it means to be a spiritual giant. I know my life is what it is today because of how God has worked through them to mold me.

As I reflect on what they have taught me, I am impressed with three characteristics that seem to be present in every giant –

Passion – “I set myself on fire and they come to watch me burn.” Wesley

Courage – Perfect love casts out all fear

Curiosity – Unless you become like little children

Focus – seek first the Kingdom of God.

Gentleness – The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, etc.
