So you’re thinking about planting a church are you? It seems as if church planting is one of the fads of the day. Well here are some things you might consider before attempting to plant a church.

First, are you more in love with God than with planting a church? If not, don’t do it.

Second, are you more in love with the people in the area where you want to plant than with your chosen style of church? If not don’t do it.

Third, are you ready to experience severe opposition from a variety of directions? If not, don’t do it.

Fourth, are you able to raise $50,000 on our own before planting? If not, don’t do it.

Fifth, are you able to do anything else and sleep at night? If so, then do that instead of trying to plant a church.

Sixth, are you willing to take a risk without any guarantee of any income for the near future? If not, then don’t do it.

Seventh, do you avoid controversy? If so, don’t do it.

Eighth, well, I could go on but you get the picture.  Church planting isn’t for everyone.

Before going any further, ask yourself, “Am I in this because it sounds exciting; or am I in this because I can’t live without planting a church?”  If you aren’t 100 percent sure God has called you to be a church planter, then don’t do it.
