In spite of Barna’s opening salvo about Christian’s ministry being the most important ministry, this very short book is a great read for parents and anyone working with children or family ministries. If you skip the introduction and first two chapters, you find remarkably good book. Chapters 6-7 along are worth the price.
You have to realize that Barna writes totally from a very “born again” evangelical perspective. In that arena churches may have ignored children due to their focus on adults. But in the rest of Christendom, adults are the ones who are mainly overlooked and under nurtured. The problem in most settings has been that most children’s ministries have not been quality in either arena. This book describes the basics of a quality children’s ministry
