I will never forget that day. It was my first Sunday at a church that only five years earlier ran 249 in worship. But as I stood to teach I was greeted by only 37 people. You read that correctly. In five years the church declined from 249 to 37 people. I later found out that the church hadn’t paid its mortgage for the past three years. I knew things weren’t good when I took the church. But I didn’t know they were that bad. Talk about being in a pickle. At the time the only thing I knew to do was to pray for guidance. And guess what? It came.
Eighteen months later we were running 250 in worship and had built a new sanctuary. Twenty-four years later I left it one of the largest mainline churches in South Texas. How did I do it? Well, we all know I didn’t do it; God did. However, I did listen to what I needed to hear to turn the church around. And I’d like to share that story with you. There simply isn’t any reason for 85% of our churches to be dying.
This October 6-7, Bill Tenny-Brittian and I will be telling our story at Exponential West. I hope you can join us for the Pre-Conference and our two workshops at the Conference.
If you use the code: revitalizationlab15w you will receive $10.00 off the price.
Hurry to register, because they are already running out of seats.
