What’s Up?
Look around. People are drowning in hopelessness. Marriages are crumbling. Kids are addicted to screens. Anxiety is through the roof. Suicide rates are climbing. And here’s the kicker … Gallup just confirmed that what people want most from their leaders isn’t power, money, or even stability. It’s the power of hope. [Read the Gallup study here.]
So What?
The church has the one thing the world is desperate for. But let’s be clear,:it’s not the fear of hellfire. (Hate to break it to you, but nobody’s losing sleep over that anymore.) What people need is real, boots-on-the-ground hope … the kind that changes marriages, eases financial stress, and offers a future worth fighting for.
The Point Is…
Hope That Works – Jesus didn’t just talk about hope. He lived it. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and showed a broken world what a full and abundant life looks like.
Belief Isn’t Enough – Churches have spent centuries making sure people believe the right things. But Jesus focused on doing the right things. (Check the Book of Mark—it’s 3:1 behavior over belief.)
Hope Has Instructions – The Bible isn’t just an ancient religious text, it’s a manual for how to handle money, relationships, work, leadership, stress … you name it.
It’s Time to Put Feet to Our Faith – If your church isn’t teaching people how to live hope … practically, daily … you’re missing the mark. Sermons are great, but people need real-world applications.
And … ?
Gallup’s study makes it painfully obvious: leaders who offer hope win hearts. That means if the church gets this right, if we stop just preaching and start demonstrating how hope actually works, we’re no longer just another dying institution. We become indispensable. We become the answer people are looking for.
But let’s be honest: most churches won’t make this shift. They’ll keep arguing over theology while the world walks away. The ones that will grow? They’ll be the churches offering something real: not just another Bible study, but actual, transformational hope that meets people where they are.
Action!
Take a hard look at what your church is offering. Are you giving people the kind of hope they can use on Monday morning? If not, it’s time to rethink your strategy.
