There’s More to Faith than Church

More to Faith

What’s Up: Too many churchgoers treat faith formation like an occasional hobby rather than a daily discipline. There’s more to faith than just going to church.

So What: If we’re serious about following Jesus, then a couple of church services a month won’t cut it. Faith grows in daily, intentional practice—not in spiritual laziness.

The Point Is:

1. Sunday Won’t Save You
Church isn’t a spiritual vending machine where you show up, get a quick faith boost, and move on. Even in the “good old days” when church attendance was weekly, that still wasn’t enough. Sunday should ignite a hunger for faith, not be the only meal.

2. Faith Requires a Daily Workout
If we want stronger faith, we have to exercise it—daily. That means spending time with God, reading Scripture, doing good, sharing our faith, and lifting others up. And no, this doesn’t mean an hour-long deep dive into the Greek text of Matthew 5. If you can commit 15 minutes to Instagram, you can commit 15 minutes to Jesus.

3. The 15-Minute Plan That Works
Here’s what I do and recommend:

  • Read a chapter from the Gospels. Why not anywhere in the Bible? Because we follow Jesus. If we’re going to live like him, we need to get to know him. Malachi is great and all, but hanging out with the Master matters most.
  • Use the Anglican Book of Common Prayer app. It takes about five minutes to pray through—short, structured, and Scripture-filled.
  • Journal with the Self-Mastery Journal for Men. (And no, it’s not just for men.) Takes five minutes to reflect, complete the journal entries, write a scripture note, and apply what you’ve read. Use the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) to make it stick.

And … ?

If you want real spiritual transformation, this is where it starts. Not in wishful thinking. Not in hoping Sunday’s sermon lasts until next week. The churches and individuals I see making real strides in their faith are the ones committed to daily practice. When you do this consistently, something shifts. You start wanting more. You start making time for deeper study and longer prayers. But it starts with 15 minutes. No excuses.

Action! Try the 15-minute method for the next seven days. See what happens.
