What’s Up
Every summer, it seems most churches hit pause on discipleship. Then September rolls around … and we act surprised when we’re starting from scratch.
So What
If disciple-making matters, then it doesn’t get summers off. And right now, you have a window to reboot better, not just restart. Let’s not waste it.
The Point Is
Rethink Small Groups
If your small groups are glorified Bible studies, you’re not making disciples. You’re cranking out educated sinners. Build accountability into every group.
Plan Real-Life Sermons
Your neighbors don’t care about Habakkuk. They care about debt, divorce, and doubt. Your sermons should tackle life’s questions with real answers.
Unify the Message
Sync your sermon series with your children’s and youth ministries. One church, one theme, one conversation at the dinner table. Unity fuels transformation.
Use the Tools You Have
You have AI. You have time. You have topics. Use them now to build resources that will actually get used in September and beyond.
And … ?
Let me be blunt: No one drifts into discipleship. And nobody stumbles into transformation. If your plan is to hope people show up and maybe learn something by osmosis, you’re wasting everyone’s time. Hope is a lousy strategy. Discipleship demands intentionality, structure, accountability, and relevance. Which means now is the moment to lay that foundation. Not after Labor Day. Not when you feel ready. Now.
Stop recycling the same old content. Stop assuming your people will figure out faith on their own. Get serious about developing series that solve real problems for real people. Build a framework that unites pulpit, classroom, and dinner table. And train your group leaders to hold people lovingly but firmly accountable to live like Jesus said to live. You have what you need. Now build what they need.
