Now that the election is over, it’s time for healing. The odds are 50/50 that no matter who you voted for in the election you’re not happy. In fact you may be mad as Hell. Or you may just have given up and not voted. Either way, our country has just experienced the most divisive campaign in our history and is in danger of experiencing a rift so deep it will take years to mend. So, it’s time for everyone to come together because the odds of having a smooth transition aren’t good. With fewer than 50% of the country approving either of the nominees, it’s going to be hard to govern no matter who wins.
But I’m hopeful. America is a resilient country, full of some of the best people on earth. Men and women have fought and died to make this country what it is. So I’m hopeful. I’m not so hopeful that our elected officials are going to be able to work together so we must pray for them. They are going to have a terrible time moving forward and getting anything accomplished.
As we ponder our future, let’s all consider the following admonition from the Scripture.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” First Timothy 2:1–2

I can’t think of a better prayer for today.
